  • There is no school on Friday, February 12th and Monday, February 15th.

  • Enrollment contracts for the 2021-2022 academic year are due on Friday, February 26th.

  • February is Black History Month when we will be celebrating Black history and culture. If you or someone you know would be willing to share with a class, a division , or multiple groups to enhance our celebration in any way, please email jmyers@holychildacademy.com and we will make it as easy as possible. 

  • Looking forward, March is Women’s Month, April is Arab American Heritage Month, and May is Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. 

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten are hosting a sock drive to benefit The Joy of Sox. Please send in NEW socks for men, women, and children and place them in the boxes in your hallway. The drive will run until February 19. 

  • Grade 8 please wear a gym uniform but bring a full winter uniform for green screen pictures on Tuesday.

The sixth grade students have had such a fantastic start to the 2020-2021 school year!  They are acclimating nicely to the new polices and procedures. We welcomed four new students to the class this year: Sam, Summer, Ariana and John.   The students learned more about each other in Next Steps class using partner interviews.  In partner pairs, students interviewed each other and then presented their partner to the class.  We discovered interesting things about each other including where they would travel if given the opportunity and what they would do with a million dollars! Sam and Lauren  Aidan and Ariana Sophia and Christopher (virtually!) Patrick and Arrington Reminders: Tonight is Movie Night on the lawn.  The event begins at 6:30 PM.  We will be showing Disney’s Coco! Students should bring a refillable water bottle every day. 11/13 This week the 6th graders continued their exploration of natural resources in science class. After completing their energy project, we took a deeper dive into different sources of renewable energy. Biomass and nuclear energy are types that have a lot of potential, that scientists are still learning a lot about. Imagine being able to turn on a light bulb from energy from animal waste! Or being able to harness nuclear energy and travel through space- not a reality yet, but we saw the enormous energy potential by watching a video of solar flares. Next week we will do the always classic lab on cleaning up an oil spill. Announcements: Please arrive at school before 7:55 AM. PreAlgebra Financial Literacy Unit

The students in Mrs. Zwilling's PreAlgebra class have started a year-long unit on financial literacy.  In this unit students will practice and learn mathematical calculations involving decimals, percents, negative integers, and order of operations.  They will apply these skills to financial calculations including balancing a check register, creating a budget, adding sales tax to a purchase price (percent increase), determining the sale price (percent decrease), and determining simple and compound interest.  They will use the probability and statistics they learn later in the year to look at financial reports and stock market data.
