We are finishing up our unit on Rocks in Science, and will be taking the test on Tuesday. Ask your kids what rocks are shown in the picture!


Announcements February 5, 2021

  • Middle School will have Milestone tests on February 9 & 11.

  • Student Council is selling Candy Grams - $1.00 per candy gram; deadline to purchase is Wednesday February 10th.  Delivery date is Thursday February 11th.

  • There is no school on Friday, February 12th and Monday, February 15th.

  • Enrollment contracts for the 2021-2022 academic year are due on Friday, February 26th.

  • February is Black History Month when we will be celebrating Black history and culture. If you or someone you know would be willing to share with a class, a division , or multiple groups to enhance our celebration in any way, please email jmyers@holychildacademy.com and we will make it as easy as possible. 

  • Looking forward, March is Women’s Month, April is Arab American Heritage Month, and May is Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. 

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten are hosting a sock drive to benefit The Joy of Sox. Please send in NEW socks for men, women, and children and place them in the boxes in your hallway. The drive will run until February 19.

The sixth grade students have had such a fantastic start to the 2020-2021 school year!  They are acclimating nicely to the new polices and procedures. We welcomed four new students to the class this year: Sam, Summer, Ariana and John.   The students learned more about each other in Next Steps class using partner interviews.  In partner pairs, students interviewed each other and then presented their partner to the class.  We discovered interesting things about each other including where they would travel if given the opportunity and what they would do with a million dollars! Sam and Lauren  Aidan and Ariana Sophia and Christopher (virtually!) Patrick and Arrington Reminders: Tonight is Movie Night on the lawn.  The event begins at 6:30 PM.  We will be showing Disney’s Coco! Students should bring a refillable water bottle every day. This week the sixth-grade students presented research at their their very Science Fair Expo! We are all very proud of their inquiry skills, report writing, and public speaking.  In the midst of putting finishing touches on the Science Fair Expo presentations, they were hard at work on learning about the life cycle of stars. Check out their research and models below! The middle school has been loving outdoor recess in the sunshine! This morning, Coach Nick joined a groups of students to shoot some hoops, while others enjoyed a good book in the shade.   The first few weeks of Earth Science has been all about how we use maps to understand the Earth as a whole. We learned about the different types of maps that exist, and how they show us different features of the Earth. We started the unit by mapping the school, and Ms. Zafiris tried to use the maps to get around her new school.              We then explored latitude and longitude, practicing interpreting the coordinates for different points on the Earth. Finally, we looked at topography maps. Taking a 3D landscape and putting it on a 2D map can be hard to comprehend, so we made physical topography maps using modeling clay and water (dyed blue to represent the ocean) and as our "sea level" rose, we drew contour line to map the landscape. This illustrated how the steeper a landscape is (either going up, or down into a valley!) the closer contour lines are, helping us to visualize and read topography maps.  And of course, you can't do sci...
