We are finishing up our unit on Rocks in Science, and will be taking the test on Tuesday. Ask your kids what rocks are shown in the picture!


Announcements February 5, 2021

  • Middle School will have Milestone tests on February 9 & 11.

  • Student Council is selling Candy Grams - $1.00 per candy gram; deadline to purchase is Wednesday February 10th.  Delivery date is Thursday February 11th.

  • There is no school on Friday, February 12th and Monday, February 15th.

  • Enrollment contracts for the 2021-2022 academic year are due on Friday, February 26th.

  • February is Black History Month when we will be celebrating Black history and culture. If you or someone you know would be willing to share with a class, a division , or multiple groups to enhance our celebration in any way, please email jmyers@holychildacademy.com and we will make it as easy as possible. 

  • Looking forward, March is Women’s Month, April is Arab American Heritage Month, and May is Asian and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. 

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten are hosting a sock drive to benefit The Joy of Sox. Please send in NEW socks for men, women, and children and place them in the boxes in your hallway. The drive will run until February 19.

While the nation awaits election results, the sixth graders at HCA have a decision! In homeroom, they held a mock election and Joe Biden emerged as the winner. Lord Voldemort (a fictional character from Harry Potter) came in at a close second.  Ms. Zafiris's math class is hard at work tackling the division of fractions. Our sixth grade will soon be undertaking their very first science fair projects. For some inspiration, the students explored last year's projects. Soon they will propose their own research topics. 11/13 This week the 6th graders continued their exploration of natural resources in science class. After completing their energy project, we took a deeper dive into different sources of renewable energy. Biomass and nuclear energy are types that have a lot of potential, that scientists are still learning a lot about. Imagine being able to turn on a light bulb from energy from animal waste! Or being able to harness nuclear energy and travel through space- not a reality yet, but we saw the enormous energy potential by watching a video of solar flares. Next week we will do the always classic lab on cleaning up an oil spill. Announcements: Please arrive at school before 7:55 AM. April 30th

This week the 6th graders have been hard at work preparing for their CTP exams next week. In math class we spent time taking practice tests and reviewing our answers. The students have been working hard, but we still found time for fun during lunch and recess. Good luck on the CTP's next week, 6th grade!
